Gear Box System Explained

When we talk about gear box system we refer to the different gears whose function is to transmit power from one part of a machine to another. The gear box system is specifically designed to decrease or increase the motor's torque, speed and direction.

A different gear box system consists of different number of gears connected and operating together. The gears are used for a range of mechanical devices and applications and come in a variety of different shapes and sizes. Their basic function is to provide gear reduction in different types of motors. They are designed to increase the output torque or in other words change the speed of the motor in motorized equipment.

The physical features of the gear box system are different and vary from one model of gearbox to another. Different models are constructed differently and have different features. Most models are manufactured form steel materials like aluminium, iron or brass. However some gearboxes can be made form other materials as well, like plastic for example. There are many types of gearboxes available on the market that differ in size, efficiency and quality.

Helical gearbox

The helical gear box system incorporates gears which are cut at angles which provides a quite yet smooth operation. The helical gears are highly efficient and are usually manufactured from materials like cast iron or aluminium alloy. They are suitable for a range of devices like blowers, cutters, elevators, etc.

Spur gearbox
Spur gears have simple construction and have the form of a cylinder or disk. They are suitable for a wide range of applications and are available in different gear ratios and sizes. Spur gearboxes can be manufactured form plastic materials including polycarbonate or nylon, or metals like brass or steel.

Bevel gearbox
The bevel gearbox incorporates gears that are usually manufactured form some type of steel material like cast iron for example. Two basic types of bevel gearboxes are available, one with spiral and the other with straight teeth gears. Spiral models are great for devices which require high speed, while straight gears are used for slow speed applications.

Worm gearbox
The worm gearbox incorporates a worm wheel with a large diameters and a worm screw connected with teeth positioned on the periphery of the worm wheel. Worm gears come with many advantages and are very efficient. They consist of an advanced breaking system and offer a high level of precision. Moreover, they require very little maintenance and are manufactured form durable materials like cast iron and aluminium.
