Adding Power to Your Car with an Exhaust System

When it comes to torque and horsepower, most vehicle manufacturers leave plenty of room for improvement. It is not that these vehicles are poorly made, but companies usually choose the most affordable options, especially when it comes to items such as exhaust systems.

An aftermarket performance exhaust for cars can free some of the power in your car's engine. That is because these systems are designed to allow a quicker and more efficient path for exhaust gases to escape. This means your engine will spend fuel and air present in the combustion chambers faster. More fuel and air burned equals more power created.

But that is not all. There are other great reasons for you to add a performance exhaust system to your vehicle. One of the biggest is the subtle but unique aggressive, modification in the exhaust note. Many of the performance exhaust for cars are slightly louder than traditional exhausts, but they produce a low 'growl' during acceleration.

Exhaust for cars can use two types of combinations, and the type you choose will make a difference in the way air flows. The typical system used by manufacturers as well as some aftermarket system use a 'crush-bend' technique which is a process that creates a crinkled bend in the pipes and decreases the diameter and slows the exhaust gases. The other technique used is called 'mandrel bend', which is smooth and allows the pipe to stay at a constant diameter through the bend. That means there is less resistance, more efficient airflow, and better performance.

The material the system is made from is also a factor to keep in mind. Most factory exhaust systems are made from mild steel, so they tend to deteriorate over time. Quality aftermarket systems are made from stainless steel or aluminized steel, which are materials that last much longer.

Most aftermarket exhaust for cars can also increase your vehicle appearance; larger tips and highly polished mufflers sure provide a more refined , aggressive look to your car or truck. The diameter the pipes is also another thing to consider, especially if you are looking to add more aftermarket performance parts. Most vehicles benefit from slightly larger piping, but be careful because going too big can actually hurt the vehicle's performance.

Regardless the model you choose, a performance exhaust for cars is sure to add to your vehicle's performance, sound, and appearance.
